ANZ Plus, 2023-2024
As a new home loan, the product needed a foundation that could scale over time, absorbing new features and loan types as the product grew. At the same time, customers needed to find what they needed without the underlying complexity surfacing in the experience.
Problem
The home screen for everyday banking uses a segmented control to switch between Everyday and Savings, two genuinely different account types living side by side. That pattern works because there are two real things to switch between.
At launch, ANZ Plus home loans were limited to one per customer and other loan types hadn't yet been added to the tab. Building the segmented control before those conditions were met would have meant shipping a navigation pattern with one permanently empty side.

Approach
Rather than force the same pattern in, I recommended deviating. Loans were doing something fundamentally different from everyday accounts, and consistency for its own sake wasn't worth the cost.
The home loan became a tile on its own screen, tappable through to full account detail. It meant an extra tap before customers reached their loan. The structure held up as more products were added.

Three core areas
As a new product, the structure had the potential to be more than just functional. I rethought the approach and landed on three tabs of equal weight: Activity, Insights and Manage.

Activity
Customers expect to see transactions when they open an account. But home loans introduced something new to the app: a future event. The next loan repayment had to sit alongside past transactions, a niche that required a new design system component.
Insights
A new addition designed to help customers visualise what was happening to their loan. We'd observed that carousel tiles lose visibility as more are added, and didn't want the same to happen here. Giving Insights a dedicated tab from the start was a deliberate decision to ensure every insight had equal visibility as the feature grew.
Manage
Interest rates and repayment amounts are the details customers care most about when managing a home loan. With the aim to make loan details configurable, giving Manage the same structural weight as Activity and Insights better reflected how central it was to the experience.
