PROPERTY USE
ANZ Plus, 2024-2025
I designed a self-service flow for existing home loan customers to switch between Owner Occupier (Live-in) and Investment with real-time visibility into the impact on their rate and repayments.
Problem
How a property is used affects its interest rate, and customers can only have one Owner Occupier (Live-in) property at a time. As circumstances changed, customers needed a way to update this without relying on a manual process. Property use was already a requirement in the application to grow the addressable market, and extending it to managed customers brought that capability beyond settlement.

Customers switching to Live-in must provide proof of address. Verification ensures the classification and its associated interest rate reflect how the property is actually used.
Approach
We wanted to be more than a toggle from one option to another. The goal was for customers to see the real-time impact on their interest rate and repayments before confirming.
Depending on the scenario, customers might need to go through a credit reassessment involving manual reviews and additional documentation. Joint home loans required both applicants' approval, with the non-initiating applicant needing to explicitly confirm before the change could proceed.
Where the volume of requests made automation unviable, changes were processed manually. To account for the delay, customers could withdraw a pending request before it took effect.
Property use was the first self-service feature to navigate customers into the application flow for credit critical and account conduct scenarios, a pattern that would be reused for future changes requiring the same level of scrutiny.
