HOME LOANS
ANZ Plus, 2022-2025
I was the sole designer behind ANZ Plus' home loan experience for existing customers. The goal: a loan that changes with you, and helps you own your home sooner.
Problem
Home loans are a 30 year relationship. But for most, the experience effectively ends at settlement, leaving customers without visibility, control, or support across the life of their loan.
ANZ Plus saw an opportunity to change that. The goal was to build a home loan experience that stayed relevant and useful across the full life of the loan. One that could flex as customers' lives changed, give them the control and visibility they'd never had before, and actively help them own their home sooner.
Role
I was the sole designer across the full post-settlement home loan experience, working across three squads simultaneously and responsible for the information architecture that everything else was built on. That meant maintaining design consistency and momentum across teams that were moving at different speeds and had different priorities.

Approach
ANZ Plus' home loan was informed by years of learnings and customer pain points from ANZ's existing product, with a vision to go further: to build a home loan that changes with your life changes and ends the silence that follows settlement. The experience was structured around three core areas: activity and transactions, insights and progress visualisation, and self-service loan management.
New design patterns were created to handle the complexity that home loans demand and scenarios that simply don't exist in everyday banking products. Designs were tested with customers before release, iterated based on feedback, and retested when changes were significant enough to warrant it.
Hardest challenge
Offset was the most scrutinised feature in the product. It touches the majority of ANZ Plus home loans, which meant significant internal focus, strong opinions on scope, and high expectations from the start. The design had to be ambitious enough to be meaningful, grounded enough to be buildable, and considered enough to account for the complexity of joint home loan scenarios where not all account holders have equal visibility into shared finances.

Not every initiative made it to release. An organisational restructure shifted ANZ Plus' direction on home loans partway through, a reflection of how much ground the team was covering, not how little was delivered.
